New Details Show Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Will Help Protect Families, Create Jobs, Reach Climate Goals
(Washington, D.C. – April 20, 2023) EPA has unveiled its proposed implementation framework for the historic Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. The fund, which was established under the Inflation Reduction Act, will host national competitive grant programs that will provide $27 billion for clean energy projects – through partnerships with private sector companies and non-profit lenders, as well as through funding specifically for solar development in low-income and disadvantaged neighborhoods.
““The funding from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund will help us address the climate crisis, increase our national energy security, save families money on their energy bills and create good-paying American jobs,” said Ted Kelly, senior attorney for energy markets and regulation at Environmental Defense Fund. “The new details EPA just released about the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund reinforce how valuable this program will be in helping us reach our climate goals – and especially in ensuring the communities that have historically been most burdened by pollution will be included as we make progress toward those goals.”
EPA will hold six public listening sessions about the proposed implementation framework over the next two weeks and will accept public comments through May 12. EPA plans to start accepting applications for the grant programs as early as June.
